Light Today TUE 14 OCT 2014 CS Lewis Quote for Today “Don’t judge a man by where he is, because you don’t know how far he has come” Light from Proverbs: New International Version (NIV) Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:23 Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings. Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 3: 5-7 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. Proverbs 4:4 Then he taught me, and he said to me,
“Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live. Proverbs 5:7 Now then, my sons, listen to me; do not turn aside from what I say. Proverbs 5: 12-13 12 You will say, “How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction! 13 I would not obey my teachers or turn my ear to my instructors. Proverbs 6: 16-20 6 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community
20 My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Proverbs 6:23 23 For this command is a lamp,
this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life, Proverbs 7: 24-25 24 Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. 25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. Proverbs 8: 7-8 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. Proverbs 8: 13-14 13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight, I have power. Proverbs 9:6 Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.” Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 10: 3-4 3 The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
4 Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. Proverbs 10: 16-17 16 The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death.
17 Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. Proverbs 11:3 The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Proverbs 11:28 Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives. Proverbs 12:3 No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.
Proverbs 12:17 An honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness tells lies. Proverbs 13:4 A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. Proverbs 13:10 Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. Proverbs 13:17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy brings healing. Proverbs 14:7 Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips. Proverbs 14:15 The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps. Proverbs 14:22 Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. Proverbs 15:7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge,
but the hearts of fools are not upright. Proverbs 15:19 The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway. Proverbs 15:31 Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise. Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided. Proverbs 17:4 A wicked person listens to deceitful lips; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue. Proverbs 17:20 One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper; one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble. Proverbs 17:25 A foolish son brings grief to his father and bitterness to the mother who bore him. Proverbs 18:4
The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream. Proverbs 18:9 One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys. Proverbs 18:24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 19:3 A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the Lord. Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:27 Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. Proverbs 20:7 The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them. Proverbs 20:28 Love and faithfulness keep a king safe; through love his throne is made secure.
Proverbs 21:3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. Proverbs 21:21 Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor. Proverbs 22: 3-4 3 The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
4 Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life. Proverbs 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away. Proverbs 22:29 Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank. Proverbs 23: 12-13 Saying 12
12 Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.

3 By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; 4 through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
